Sixth Form Admissions and Applying

Sixth Form Admissions Policy for September 2025

The admission number for students joining in Year 12 will be 112.

The admission number of external applicants applying to Wixams Academy for the first time is 40.  The closing date for applications will be 31st March 2025, but we recommend applications are fully completed by the 1st of February, so we can begin to plan teaching groups accordingly.  Applications received after 31st March will be considered if places remain available.

In the event of over-subscription, places will be allocated to:

  1. Looked after children and children who were previously looked after but immediately after being looked after became subject to adoption, a child arrangements order, or special guardianship order. [1]

  2. Children currently on roll at Wixams Academy at the time of admission, providing the course requirements are satisfied.

  3. Siblings of children on roll at Wixams Academy at the time of application, providing the course requirements are satisfied. [2]

  4. Any other children with those living nearest to the school being given highest priority, providing the course requirements are satisfied.

In the event of over-subscription, places will be allocated to those who live the closest to the school.  Those with the shortest journey will be given priority.  The distance will be assessed by measuring a straight line from the front entrance of the school to the applicant’s home.

The entry requirement grades outlined below apply equally to internal and external applicants.

[1] A looked after child is a child who is (a) in the care of a local authority, or (b) being provided with accommodation by a local authority in the exercise of their social services functions (see the definition in Section 22(1) of the Children Act 1989).
