Health and Social Care
Curriculum Intent
At Wixams Academy, our Health and Social Care curriculum at Key Stage 5 is designed to inspire, challenge, and prepare students for further study or employment within the health, social care and childcare sectors. The new Cambridge Advanced AAQ qualification from September 2025 enables our learners to develop a deep understanding of the key principles, practices, and values that underpin effective care and support.
Our intent is to:
- Equip students with a strong foundation of knowledge across human lifespan development, working in health and social care, and safeguarding practices.
- Develop transferable skills including communication, critical thinking, problem-solving, and the ability to apply theoretical knowledge to real-life contexts.
- Provide a curriculum that is inclusive and reflective of diverse care needs, encouraging empathy, respect, and ethical awareness.
- Ensure learners are assessment-ready, with clear progression routes into higher education, apprenticeships, or direct employment in care settings.
- Foster resilience, professionalism and a lifelong curiosity about the evolving needs and challenges within the health and social care landscape.
Through engaging, purposeful learning experiences and a supportive environment, we aim to nurture compassionate, capable individuals who are ready to positively impact the lives of others.
