PSHE
Curriculum Intent
At the heart of our PSHE and RSE curriculum is the commitment to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and values they need to lead healthy, safe, responsible, and fulfilling lives. Our curriculum is designed to support students' personal development, promote their wellbeing, and prepare them for the opportunities, responsibilities, and experiences of adult life. It is inclusive, age-appropriate, and responsive to the needs of our diverse student body. We aim to foster confident, resilient, and respectful individuals who are capable of making informed decisions, forming positive relationships, and contributing meaningfully to society.
The PSHE and RSE curriculum is built around three interwoven themes that support students’ personal development and future readiness. Health and Wellbeing focuses on physical and mental health, emotional resilience, and personal safety. Living in the Wider World equips students with the knowledge and skills to navigate society, including financial literacy, digital responsibility, and career preparation. Relationships explores the importance of respectful, healthy connections with others, covering topics such as consent, identity, communication, and the dynamics of family, friendships, and romantic relationships.
In Sixth Form (Years 12 and 13), students follow a rotated two-year curriculum to ensure comprehensive coverage of key PSHE and RSE themes regardless of their entry point. This model allows all students to access the full breadth of content across both years, with topics revisited and deepened to reflect their growing maturity and life experience. The curriculum continues to focus on preparing students for independent living, healthy adult relationships, and the transition to higher education, employment, or training, while also supporting their mental health and wellbeing during this pivotal stage of development.
In Year 11, students follow a slightly adapted PSHE and RSE curriculum due to the shortened academic year and exam preparation. The programme is streamlined to prioritise essential content, focusing on mental health, exam stress management, post-16 transitions, and key relationship and safety topics, ensuring students are still well-prepared for life beyond school.
We are committed to delivering PSHE and RSE through a spiral curriculum that revisits key themes with increasing depth and maturity. Lessons are inclusive, evidence-based, and delivered in a safe, supportive environment. We work in partnership with parents, carers, and external agencies to ensure our curriculum reflects the needs of our students and the wider community.
